TIME AND WORK :

1.  If A can finish work in X time  and B can finish work in Y time 

     then both together can finish work in (X*Y)/ (X+Y) time.

2.  If A can finish work in X time and A and B together can work in Y  time

     time then B can finish work in  (XY)/(X-Y) time.

3.  If A can finish work in X time and B in Y time and C in Z time 

     then they all working together will finish the work in

    (XYZ)/ (XY +YZ +XZ) time

4 .  If A can finish work in X time and B in Y time and A,B and C 

    together in Z time then :

    C can finish work alone in (XYZ)/ (XY-ZX-ZY)

    Similar can be done for A&B alone-

     B+C can finish in (ZX)/(X-Z)

 & A+ C can finish in (ZY)/(Y-Z)

Here is another shortcut

TYPE 1 :  Price of a commodity is increased by 60 %. By how 
                much % should the consumption be reduced so that the 
                expense remain the same.

TYPE 2 :  Price of a commodity is decreased by 60 %. By how 
                 much % can  the consumption be increased so that the expense 
                 remain the same.

Solution :  
TYPE1 :   (100* 60 ) / (100+60) = 37.5 %
TYPE 2 :   (100* 60 ) / (100-60) = 150  %

PROFIT AND LOSS-

Suppose the price is first increase by X%  and then decreased  by Y% , the final change % in the price is given by the following  formula  -

Final Difference % = X- Y – XY/100.

Example1 -The price of T.V set is increased by 40 % of the 

cost price and then decreased by 25% of the new price .  On 
selling, the profit for the dealer was Rs.1,000 . At what price was 
the T.V sold.

Solution

By Formula  (X- Y – XY/100.)

40-25-(40*25/100)= 5 %.

If 5%=1000

Then

100%=5%*20*

Implies that- 1000*20=20,000

CP=20,000

SP=20000+1000

SP=21,000

Hence our answer is 21,000 (i.e Profit obtained) 

Example2-The price of T.V set is increased by 25 % of cost 

price and then decreased by 40% of the new price .  On selling, 
the loss for the dealer was Rs.5,000 . At what price was the T.V 
sold.

Solution-By Formula  (X- Y – XY/100.)

= 25-40-(25*45/100)=  -25 %.

So if 25 % = 5,000
Then 100%=5000*4=200,00

C.P = 20,000
S.P = 20,000 – 5,000= 15,000.

Hence our answer is 15,000 (i.e loss obtained)

The Following trick makes it very easy for anyone to shutdown their pc’s remotely.

The requirements are simple
One cell phone with GPRS enabled, Microsoft Outlook on the pc to be put to shutdown.

Using this method the user can shutdown, restart, hibernate the computer just by sending an email from their cell phone.

All you need to have is Microsoft outlook which comes with Microsoft word. The Microsoft outlook should be installed on the pc you wish to shutdown.

First you need to create a batch file to perform shutdown etc .you can write them down yourself.

* Open your notepad and type the following

c:\windows\system32\shutdown -s -f -t 00

And save it as shutdown.bat (Executable file)

* Open up Microsoft outlook .make sure that it is already configured for you email id.
* Now we will need to set Microsoft outlook in such a way that outlook checks you email every one minuite.This can be set by going to tools-à options
* Then click the mail setup tab and later send/receive button
* Make sure that you schedule an automatic send/receive...every box checked and set the number of minutes to 1.Now you may close all these dialog boxes
* Now go to tools---rules and alert. Next click on options button on the upper right hand corner and press the import rules button



* Now click on the shutdown.bat which you recently created
* Now the final step
* When you send the message from your phone to your email address with a subject shutdown or smsshutdown%% ......and see your computer is shutdown….
